Hey I have a question for any braille readers who are either in a math class or a foreign language: do any of you know of a better alternative than to simply emboss all of that material? i mean, right now I emboss any assignments that I have for that class and have vision specialists translate it. Is that the only way, or is there any program that will actually accurately print this material?
depends what you're using. With a braille lite i could quite successfully print maths by writing long passages in grade 0 braille for example. As for foreign languages the accents are the only tricky bit, and as far as i know, not yet resolved. You could use a pc and an editing site and learn how to quickly execute the various accents? Would MS Word cut this with the appropriate tinkering/keystrokes I wonder?
hmm, maybe. thats a good thought. i guess there's also different ways to do the accent, like dot four before the letter i've seen that before, I don't know fi that would come out well in print.
I've not had the experience myself, but I believe people quite regularly use a laptop to produce Foreign language and Maths notes. For foreign languages, I believe some keyboard shortcuts can be set up for the various accents, and for Maths Microsoft Formula has most of what's needed. Can't comment on the transcription of that material into Braille though, perhaps someone else will.
WhenI took a foreign language, I used a laptop with duxbury and input the accents that way. It just saved me an extra step cause I could print or emboss in the same program.
